Take a Ride at Copper Basin Dunes OHV Area! (California)

This area boasts 1200 acres of open area with a variety of desert trails, powerline roads, and some isolated sand dunes. The dunes offer some nice views of the river but you cannot ride all the way to the water. There is no camping, and no day use amenities such as picnic tables or shade. Lodging can be found at the RV resort directly accross the road, which also has a small market, boat ramp and some nice waterfront camping. Reservations are recommended for all resorts and campgrounds in the area.  More...

Samoa Sand Dunes

Featured OHV Area Near Eureka, CA!

Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Humboldt Bay, this area offers over 200 acres of wide and sandy trails that wind through scattered ammunition bunkers from WW2 and interesting coastal vegetation. There are no real "dunes" here, however you can ride on the beach. The main staging area is for day-use only but the paved campground that is located just before the main entrance offers bay views and direct trail access. Detailed Dune Map.  More...

1) Take US-101 to intersection for SR-255 north
2) Turn north north onto SR-255, continue about 2 miles
3) After crossing bridge turn left onto New Navy Base Rd., continue about 5 miles
4) Turn right into staging area.
