Alt Names

Sequoia National Forest, Kern River Ranger District, Greenhorn Mountains, Piutes Mountains, Mill Creek Trail, Remington Ridge Trail, Lightner Flat, Hobo Ridge, Lucas Creek, Metoe Spring, Squirrel Meadow, Flying Dutchman Creek, Remington Hotsprings

Last Known StatusOpen

This area offers two challenging single track trails that run in a north and south direction. Both trails have some steep wind windy climbs and descents, narrow switchbacks and spectacular views of Lake Isabella and the Piutes and Greenhorn Mountains.

There are four trailheads that provide access to both the northern and southern part of each trail. Those with street legal dual sport motorcycles or mountain bikes will be able to make most use of these trails since there are short sections of paved road that separate the Mill Creek and Remmington Trailheads.

Those with non-street legal dirt bikes may want to stage at the Remington Trailhead, which is located at the nothern part of the trail sytem off Kern River Canyon Road. The staging area has room for primitive camping, plus has a short hiking trail that leads toward some nicely maintained hot springs.

Breckenridge Campground is located at the southern part of the trail system and while it does not provide direct access to either trail, the campground is less than ΒΌ mile away from the Mill Creek Trailhead. The campground is surrounded by old dirt roads which makes for some easy riding for the four wheel crowd. There is no fee charged for camping, but there is no water provided and large trailers are not recommended.
