(Oregon National Recreation Area)
This OHV area offers some beautiful coastline dunes with dispersed vegetation and lots of nearby sight seeing. You'll find mostly ATV's and buggies here, and a paddle tire is recommended for bikes. The four main campgrounds in the area offer hundreds of campsites, many with shade, paved parking, picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, and drinking water. Campgrounds are congested with vehicle and ATV traffic night and day, and campgrounds are typically full on summer weekends. Reservations are strongly recommended. If you can't get a campsite, you'll need a recreation pass to camp on the beach. Also note that special rules apply on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4 & Labor Day) and any other 3 day weekend. An additional permit is required during these times. The permit is $10.00 and is available first come first serve at Hebo Ranger District or Sand Lake Grocery. Only 1,200 permits are sold per holiday weekend to limit congestion. The special permit is not required on non-holiday weekends or weekdays. Do yourself a favor and hit these dunes mid-week.
