Sugar River Recreation Trail

Sunday, January 7, 2024

Other Names

Sugar River Trail, Belknap ATV Trails, Newport Trails, Sullivan County ATV Club

Last Known StatusOpen

This multiple-use trail is about nine miles long and follows an old railroad bed along the Sugar River. The trail goes over many bridges, including two covered bridges with some nice forest scenery. As expected, the terrain is mostly easy to moderate with no steep hills, making it an easy ride for all skill levels, including kids.

The trail is open daily and is one of the few motorized trails that remain open during mud season. Parking is available off Belknap Avenue as well as on the opposite end off Route 11. Again, this is a multiple-use trail that is also popular with mountain bikers and hikers, so use caution.

This trail is maintained by the Sullivan County ATV Club, so be sure to say thanks for all their hard work.
