This part of northern Nevada offers rugged terrain, panoramic mountain views plus camping, hiking trails and excellent fishing. Motorized use is permitted on existing roads but visitors should note that there are no designated ATV trails.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the area but Onion Valley Reservoir offers a semi-primitive campground with six sites, each with a picnic table, fire pit plus two vault toilets. There is no charge for camping but sites are first come, first serve.

4WD and high clearance vehicles are recommended for this trip since the main entrance road is narrow and rocky. The area is remote and usually only accessible during the summer since winter brings heavy snowfall and ice accumulations. For current road conditions contact the Winnemucca District Office.
