This large state forest offers 27 miles of ATV trails that wind through over 16,000 acres of mixed hardwood trees. There are multiple staging areas along with access to the famous Appalachian Trail (non-motorized use).

ATVs are permitted on the trails during daylight hours only. Snowmobiles can explore these trails during winter months. The forest offers one campground that has basic amenities but there is no direct trail access and machines must be hauled to and from the staging areas.

**Note: ATV and motorcycle riders are required to obtain a permit before riding the trails at October Mountain State Forest. There is no fee but a maximum of 75 permits will be issued per day. Permits can be reserved by calling (413) 358-2172 or via e-mail at ohv-permits@state.ma.us
