Mormon Lake Grand Prix

RP Staff (August 2025)Arizona Offroad Promotions returned to Mormon Lake, Arizona, for the first time in several years on July twelfth and thirteenth. The cool weather made for a great weekend of racing in the pines and on the dry lakebed. The track was located about forty minutes southeast of Flagstaff, tucked in the Coconino National Forest.
The Stacycs bikes led the program early both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Those kids took the power of electricity, turned the throttle and went for a ride. There were kids and bikes screaming around the course.
Bikes, quads and UTV all rode on a roughly four plus mile course. Depending on the race, the times were twenty-five to forty-five minutes long on the grand prix course. In the Big Bike class, there were at least forty plus rides on the first two gates. This made for an interesting hole shot which was turn one. A left hand one-hundred-and-eighty-degree turn. If you were not in the lead, then your best riding skill had to kick in.
On Sunday, the last race of the day was treated to an afternoon thunder shower. It was brief, but well worth the effort on mother nature’s part. The smell of racing fuel and sagebrush filled the air.
The next race for AZOP will be held on July twenty-sixth. This will be a team race up at Cinders OHV area on the northeast side of Flagstaff, Arizona. The following weekend, on August, second and third, AZOP will be back at the Cinders OHV area for the Cinders GP.
