Spangler Hills OHV Area

Saturday, December 23, 2023

Other Names

Red Mountain, Trona Road, Searleg Station Road, East Kern County, Grass Valley, Mojave Desert, Teagle Wash, Barstow, Wagon Wheel OHV Staging Area

Last Known StatusOpen

Here's a chance to free ride on about 57,000 acres of open public land. This is trail blazer's paradise and is much larger than nearby Jawbone Canyon and Dove Springs, but it also has less to offer.

There are no services, shade or water, and really not that much in the way of interesting terrain. You can, however, ride more or less where you want, and ride to the town of Johannesburg (south approximately 5 miles) and get food and gas. You will find a few wild horse and burrow corrals to the north and the Trona Pinnacles to the northeast.

There will be no crowds, so you can get on the gas and let it all hang out, but beware the clearly marked military base to the east. This is a large area so a GPS or radio is recommended.
