Other Names

Spearhead Trails, Leeman Field Park, Wallen Creek, Pennington Gap

Last Known StatusOpen

This trail system opened to the public in October 2015 and offers 34 miles of trails that are geared for the advanced rider. The terrain is described as rough, rugged and steep with many narrow switchbacks. Novice riders should note that this area has no easy trails but milder terrain can be found at Mountain View, Coal Canyon, Pocahontas and Ridgeview Trails.

The town of Pennington Gap is ATV friendly and offers direct access to lodging, gas and dining facilities. A permit is required to ride the trail system which can be purchased online or at nearby vendors. Camping is not permitted alongside the trails but Leeman Field RV Park is located close to the trailhead and offers both full hookups and primitive tent sites.
